As the world moves more digital, fraudsters are becoming more sophisticated with their methods of identity impersonation. This can be seen by the endless headlines of data breaches and cybercrime. With a backdrop of increased data exposure and increased fraud attacks, the need for secure software has never been greater.
What is Facial Biometrics Verification?
Facial biometric verification is one way of authenticating a customer and uses facial biometric technology to match a referenced image (i.e. a customer selfie) to a trusted source of images. Through the matching process, you are able to confirm the customer matches the photo from the trusted source. This process ensures a customer being onboarded is whom they say they are. We have employed face-matching software with advanced algorithms to ensure accuracy while also being able to operate at scale.
Layering the matching process with additional security measures:
Sophisticated fraudsters are able to bypass the biometric matching piece through spoofing attacks. Being able to layer your facial matching process with liveness detection ensures your application process can detect spoofing presentation attacks.
Liveness Detection simply distinguishes images or motions mimicked by photos and videos from real faces.
Comcorp has built a facial biometric software that combines matching to a golden source while also providing a seamless liveness detection process giving our customers a result of the process in real-time, called Curata.
Curata’s liveness detection for facial recognition blocks masks, avatars, and other sophisticated spoofing attempts like deepfakes. For this, we don’t need video streams or special sensors such as a 3D camera. Instead, we simply analyze two selfies taken by any standard camera. This makes the liveness detection flexible and easy to integrate for any web-based or mobile application. The liveness detection is compliant with ISO/IEC 30107-3.
Curata’s step-by-step process:
- During an onboarding stage or in the credit payout stage, a customer may be asked to go through a facial biometric process.
- This could be initiated by sending the customer a link via SMS or through a web-embedded biometric piece.
- If required, the customer can give consent to pulling their data from the referenced database.
- The customer would then be prompted to take a selfie and follow an animation to complete the liveness detection piece.
- Once completed, Curata creates a full audit trail for you to keep on file with the results of the biometric and consent process.
We have seen the success our customers have had in preventing fraud losses once implementing Curata. This allows the business to focus on other areas associated with growth rather than fighting fraud. We have ensured the process is flexible in implementation and easy to use while also utilizing any device that has a selfie camera.
